Researchers from King's College London investigated the relationship between dietary patterns and psoriasis severity in a cohort of participants. A plant-rich, low saturated-fat diet was defined as one that consisted of at least 50% energy from plants, while limiting intake of saturated fats to less than 10% of total energy. The study found that individuals who adhered to this dietary pattern had lower levels of psoriasis severity compared to those with a higher saturated-fat diet.
The study's findings suggest that the benefits of a plant-rich diet in managing psoriasis symptoms may be attributed to its anti-inflammatory properties, as well as its ability to promote healthy gut microbiota. While the exact mechanisms underlying these effects are not fully understood, this research contributes to the growing body of evidence highlighting the importance of dietary habits in modulating immune responses and influencing disease outcomes.
